Health Ministry Kicks Off Digital Program To Monitor Maternal Health Data:Respond With Targeted Health Interventions At Health Centers.
The health ministry is set to pilot a program that will be monitoring the events happening for mothers and newborns from communities’ levels at health centers 3 and 4 on a daily basis. This will empower the Ministry of Health to quickly evaluate maternal and perinatal deaths and respond with targeted health interventions
Dr. Richard Mugahi, Commissioner of Reproductive and Child Health at the Ministry of Health, who unveiled the digital tool, explained the data will be recorded on a daily basis, unlike previously, where data had to be compiled on a monthly basis.
He said the system will improve the decision and response time, the data will be available on time, and will improve on the outcome.
The data collected at the facility levels' health centers from 111 V.S. will track data including mothers who go for antenatal care services, normal deliveries, caesarean cases, underweight babies, and babies’ deaths; such information has been collected on a monthly basis.
The health workers will use English to capture the data. The tool is an intervention helping health workers collect data, but also the managers at the centers will be able to know what has happened at the health centers within a day.
The health ministry, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC Foundation) in partnership with the Coalition for Health Promotion and Social Development (HEPS-Uganda), is piloting the system.
The systemwill belpiloted inn 3 districtsof Mukono, Kyeggegwa,a and Kasese that are experiencing high burdens of epidemic breakups.
The information officers will be using digital tools. We shall be getting data, or information, on time. We shall be feeding the information into computers and sending the information to districts to cause an intervention.
The health workers will useEnglish too capture the data. The tool is an intervention helping health workers collect data but also the mangers at the centers will be able to know ,what has happened at the health centers within a day.
The system will improve the decision and response time; the data will be available on time, and will improve on the outcome.
