The 27th Provincial Assembly Of The Church Of Uganda Commences At UCU, Mukono
The 27th Provincial Assembly of the Church of Uganda (COU) has officially commenced at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono. This biennial event is being held under the theme "Imitating God's Goodness in Doing Good," inspired by Galatians 6:9. The assembly, a significant event on the Church's calendar, has brought together bishops from all 39 dioceses, key church partners, and delegates from across the country.
The day began with a solemn Holy Communion service led by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu. Ven delivered the sermon. Can. Frederick Baalwa, the newly elected Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese. In his message, Bishop Baalwa urged the congregation to persist in doing good, regardless of their challenges.
Following the service, the official opening ceremony was held, where attendees were warmly welcomed by Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University. The Episcopal Anglican Church of South Sudan was represented by an observer, who expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration between the Church of Uganda and the Church in South Sudan.
The event’s chief guest, John Musinguzi Rujoki, Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), delivered a keynote address on the Church's critical role in national transformation. He emphasized the importance of discipline as a cornerstone for nation-building and highlighted the provisions under Section 2(bb) of the Income Tax Act, which offers tax exemptions for religious institutions. Musinguzi encouraged church leaders to apply for these benefits to further their mission.
A significant moment during the ceremony was when Equity Bank officially handed over the land title of the Church House Building to the Church of Uganda. Archbishop Kazimba expressed deep appreciation to all those who played a role in ensuring the completion of the loan for the Church House building.
