Kawempe Division Launches Bursary Scheme

Kawempe Division Launches Bursary Scheme

The Kawempe Division Urban Council in Kampala has launched a bursary scheme to support brilliant children from poor families. The scheme is supported by some schools in the Division.

During the unveiling of the bursary, at the Division headquarters, the local leaders urged the government to invest more funds in the education sector to improve learning outcomes by raising the standard of teaching.

Loyce Mirembe is a mother of five children and resides in Kazo parish, Kawempe Division. She says her husband walked out the relationship a few years ago, citing her physical disability.

The official reopening of schools for the first school term of 2023 is now a few days away but Mirembe is not sure her children will go to school since she does not have a permanent job.

However, Mirembe now has hope that her children will benefit from the bursary scheme offered by Kawempe Division. With an education, she is hopeful that the future of her children will be secured.

Kakembo Jamiru is another parent who is set to benefit from the new bursary scheme that Kawempe Division will run in conjunction with some private schools.

Kawempe Division leaders say that the number of pupils and students is high compared to the funds the Government allocates the schools and therefore there is need for more funding in government schools.

The Kawempe Division leaders gave assurance that the beneficiaries of the bursaries will get them as promised.
