Enanga Assures Ugandans Of Safety Despite UK Terror Attack Alert

Police have assured Ugandans of safety following the UK’s embassy in Uganda terror attack alert to Uganda last week.

Although the UK did not necessarily indicate the threat level in Uganda, it noted that “there is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals

According to their website, UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has called for vigilance, especially in crowded places, and said they are committed to doing the needful to ensure the country’s safety.

This was during the weekly media address at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

Following an alert to Uganda last week, UK’s embassy in Uganda, the authorities were warned of the terror attack that “could be indiscriminate or against foreign nationals or places frequented by foreign nationals.”

According to the statement on the UK website Uganda should be vigilant at all times, especially in crowded areas and public places like hotels, transport hubs, restaurants and bars, and during major gatherings like sporting or religious events and when in close proximity to Government buildings or security installations such as police stations.

Previously, similar terror alerts have been issued by the UK and US governments and eventually, these turned to actual attacks, including the latest Lubhiriha Secondary School attack by suspected ADF rebels on the Uganda-Congo border in Kasese that claimed 42 lives.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the country is safe despite the numerous threats. He called for the public to remain calm and vigilant.

Enanga however noted that since the alert was issued in a form of a general statement, it made it difficult for them to trace the exact targets.

According to Enanga, the biggest threat to the country remains the ADF rebel group, noting that they should not be a problem anymore since their plans have been disrupted.

He also called upon Ugandans to be vigilant at all times, especially in crowded areas and public places.

The joint security spokesperson reminded the public that security starts on an individual basis, and gave a few hints to look out for in order to help the police protect them.

Meanwhile, on the updates from the previous Lubhiriha Secondary School attack by suspected ADF rebels in Kasese, Enanga said that out of the seven severely burnt bodies that were pending identification, three have been identified and four remain hence, raising the number of matched persons to human remains 14 from 11 recorded last week.
