Diversification, The Way Out Of Food Price Fluctuation Struggle

Diversification, The Way Out Of Food Price Fluctuation Struggle

It is known for market vendors to complain about the fluctuation of food prices, either recording low or no profits.

This according to them is majorly caused by the supposed high fuel prices.

The deputy CEO of KACITA, Sebugwawo Stephen has however urged food vendors to adopt diversification, as well as adjust to changing factors like weather, in order to better handle the issues, they face.

Though most fuel stations have about shs.4000 as their fuel sale price, market vendors have continued to report the presumed high fuel costs as the cause of low profits made from selling agricultural products like tomatoes, onions, Irish potatoes, vegetables and the sort.

This time around they say due to this, the low wholesale price provision of food stocks and low customer consumption have resulted in low profits gained by food vendors.

Vendors requested the government to put a hand in ensuring the supposed high fuel prices are reduced to favour the movement of foods.

The deputy CEO of KACITA, Sebugwawo Stephen advised vendors to adopt ways of handling food produce capacity challenges.

He went on to encourage vendors to be diverse and invest in their own sources of food to reduce low-profit risks.

Currently, the prices of onions and tomatoes in kilograms stand at shs.5000 to 10,000 and above, and a cup-full of peas is shs. 2,000, 1kg beans about 5,500, 1kg rice is about 5,000-6,000, groundnuts about 7000, matooke, 20 - 25,000 and potatoes about 5000 to 6000.
